Every once in a while you hit the jackpot. Well I hit it huge when I came across Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort in Takilma, Oregon. This place is the living manifestation of every treehouse lover’s wildest dreams. There’s so much going on at this place that one blog post just wouldn’t do it justice.
This imaginative place, owned and operated by Michael Garnier, has been around since 1990. His website says he hosts: “18 different treehouses and a host of platforms (a few almost 40+ feet up the tree), a few child size forts, seven swinging bridges (8′ to 32′ off the ground and 12′ to 90′ long), five swings plus the Giant Tarzan, 20 flights of stairs, four ladders, a bunch of horses and a gaggle of chickens,” and…wait for it…several zip line courses adding up to a full mile of treehouse zip lines!”
If your head isn’t spinning yet, there’s more: “On the ground there is also a fresh water swimming pool fed by the East Fork Illinois River (available to treeserved guests), two performance stages, a bath house and cooking pavilion, big campfire site and barbecues (to mention but a few of our facilitrees).”
Basically, this place is the treehouse equivalent of Disney World. Only way cooler because it’s in a natural setting where you can commune with the beloved trees.
Why are there two performance stages? Because Michael’s peops know how to have a good time. Every year they throw a rippin’ Fourth of July party with musical acts on both stages. If you’re in his neck of the woods or are intrigued enough to make the journey, here are the details.
There’s so much more to this place, I’ll be writing more on it soon. If you’re a fan of A LOT of tree puns, this site’s for you!
